About

Metal hydrides have been thoroughly investigated with regards to their ability to store hydrogen reversibly, and might have an important place in a future hydrogen economy. However, metal hydrides can also be semiconducting, and are therefore interesting materials for future generations of solar cells. Supported by calculations in density functional theory, I investigate experimentally the opportunities with regards to making a thin film semiconductor device of metal hydrides to directly convert light into electricity using the photovoltaic effect.

Metal hydrides could be a sustainable, cheap and non-toxic alternative for the production of solar cells in the future.
